Company SPUTNIX, resident of the innovation center Skolkovo, and Bauman Moscow State Technical University, a leading technical university in Russia, signed a memorandum on 19 February on SPUTNIX participation in implementation of scientific and educational projects, as well as in BMSTU program for holding scientific and technological experiments onboard small scientific and education satellites.

Results of the satellite-based monitoring of oil spills and ice situation in the Black and Azov seas with the period of January-December 2012 are summed up. Over the monitoring period 92 radar images were taken. Oil spill, mostly of ship origin, were detected on 61 images (66% of the total number of imagery sessions). In July 2012 WWF and ScanEx RDC launched a pilot project on detection of walrus rookeries based on satellite images throughout the entire territory of the Russian Arctic.  Such an ambitious imagery to search for rare animals - covering thousands of square kilometers – was supposed to become the first one in the world. At 22:02 Moscow Time on February 11 the new American Landsat system satellite (LCDM - Landsat Data Continuity Mission) was launched from the Space Launch Complex 3 of the Vandenberg Air Force Base, California.
